Ever since your backup system was set-up
you have been faithfully putting the tape in the drive in the belief
that it has done its job overnight. You possibly don’t look at the error
logs or don’t remember how to (after all it was a long time since it
was set-up).
So the last thing you want to find at the one time you need it is that the
data you desperately need is not on the tape or worst still is corrupted.

There are 4 simple steps to server backup verification.

Audit Report
The audit report will consist of a breakdown of the data recovered from
your tape.
eps will try
to highlight the areas that we believe are critical data and mark them
out for comparison to your server files. Also,
eps will give a general
breakdown of what your data consists of with graphical representations. |

Schedule
For the first year the 3 restore verification points
would be *
4 monthly
cycle
1. Immediate
test at contract start
2. 6th month
3. 12th month
Subsequent years would continue at 4 month intervals
3 Monthly cycle
1. 4th
month after Month 12 in 1st year contract
2. 8th month
3. 12th month
After the first test, each subsequent test would be
compared to the previous results for a general overview. i.e. amount
of data, data layout, etc...

This assumes the
backup system is less than 2 years old.

recommend that a backup system older than 2 years immediately goes to
a 3 monthly cycle for added protection against media or drive failure.

£375 per
annum
for 3 off site verifications per year.
Every 10Gb extra =
add £125 per annum
3 Monthly Cycle
0-20Gb=
£450 per
annum
for 4 off site verifications per year.
Every 10Gb extra =
add £150 per annum
